Champagne Quotes

World Champagne Day may be on 18 October, but in the States, they celebrate National Champagne Day on 31 December – which, if you ask us, would be a far better day to celebrate the world’s love affair with bubbly; especially considering that more than 360 million glasses of champagne and other sparkling wines are consumed on New Year’s Eve!

So, in honour of champagne, which the French Benedictine monk, Dom Perignon, claimed was like ‘tasting the stars’ here are our favourite champagne quotes to help ring in the New Year.

‘I drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it—unless I’m thirsty.’ Lily Bollinger

‘Champagne! In victory one deserves it, in defeat one needs it.’ Napoleon Bonaparte

‘Champagne, if you are seeking the truth, is better than a lie detector.’ Graham Greene

‘My only regret in life is that I didn’t drink enough Champagne.’ John Maynard Keynes

‘I only drink Champagne on two occasions, when I am in love and when I am not.’ Coco Chanel

‘Champagne… it gives you the impression that every day is Sunday.’ Marlena Dietrich

‘Champagne should be cold, dry and hopefully, free.’ Christian Pol Roger

‘Remember gentlemen, it’s not just France we are fighting for, it’s Champagne!’ Winston Churchill

‘There is nothing like champagne to ensure sweet dreams.’ Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey

‘Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right.’ Mark Twain

Hmmm, we are favouring Mark Twain’s take on things, especially as we all prepare to usher in a new year tomorrow.

But whatever you choose to drink – whether it’s tasting Perignon’s stars or something a little less dizzying – from everyone at N1, your leading Johannesburg and Cape Town meat wholesalers, we wish you a wonderful celebration and the Happiest of New Years, may it be a peaceful and prosperous 2020 for us all!
