As the year draws to a close and many of us begin to wind down for Christmas, we look back on this unprecedented year and recap some of our blog highlights - diverse and informative topics from the year that was …
We make Home Deliveries!
We pride ourselves on being one of the best meat suppliers Cape Town has to offer and part of that success means adapting our service to suit current needs so it was with great pleasure that for the first time in our history, we opened up to the public, and began our home deliveries! These are available in the Cape Town CBD, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern suburbs, Northern suburbs and in the Boland.
Food Trends in the New ‘Normal’
With the help of Euromonitor, the world’s leading independent provider of market research, we looked at what our new ‘normal’ looks like and four food trends that emerged were: healthier eating was not always the chosen option in lockdown and affordable treats like confectionery will continue to grow in popularity; as will a demand for economy ranges in food; consumers will go straight to the source and tend to cut out the middleman; and as our health remains a priority, food will not only be our fuel but also our medicine.
Crazy Food Facts
Our favourite and the probably most bittersweet fun fact was that altitude can change the way your food tastes. Flying changes your body chemistry, so certain flavours taste different on a plane than they do down on the ground. Some things are saltier or sweeter, and alcohol goes right to your head. German airline, Lufthansa, ran a series of tests on how flavour profiles change. Spoiler alert - your food is salted to compensate.
The Magic of Curry
We took an aromatic dive into why Durban curry is considered by many curry enthusiasts to be the best in the world. It’s said to be the heat - they're hotter than other curries and will often incorporate the use of
hot and spicy cayenne pepper, or curry masala; their red colour - thanks to the use of tomatoes; and the inclusion of sweet spices - cinnamon, cardamom or cloves.
And finally, as we reflect on the year that was and our thoughts turn gratefully to all those who have stood by us and helped us navigate challenging times, we want to say a simple but sincere ‘thank you and best wishes for a Happy, and most importantly, Healthy Festive Season!’
